American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company, announced today that is has been awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification by the U.S. Green Building Council for its new corporate headquarters building in Camden, NJ.

The exterior and interior of the building both received LEED Platinum certification. Notable environmentally friendly building features include:
A water reuse system, providing water for the building toilets and landscaping
LED lighting through the building and solar shades on the windows to maximize the use of natural light
High-efficiency glass windows to reduce the heat impact inside the building
Low-flow toilets, sinks and showers to reduced water usage
High-efficiency HVAC systems to reduce energy consumption
