American Water Declares Quarterly Dividend

Cash dividend payable in the fourth quarter 2011

VOORHEES, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- American Water Works Company, Inc. (NYSE: AWK) announced today that its Board of Directors declared a quarterly cash dividend payment of $0.23 per share.

The regular quarterly cash dividend is payable on December 1, 2011 to all shareholders of record as of November 18, 2011.

"We are pleased that American Water continues its history of declaring consecutive dividend payments," said Jeff Sterba, president and CEO of American Water. "This is possible because we have achieved the proper balance between cash dividends to shareholders and needed investment in our business."
