VOORHEES, N.J., Apr 26, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- American Water Works Company, Inc. (NYSE: AWK) announced today that it will hold its Annual Meeting of Stockholders at 10 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Friday, May 7, 2010, at The Mansion, 3000 Main Street, Voorhees, New Jersey 08043. Stockholders of record at the close of business on March 15, 2010, are entitled to attend and vote on all matters that properly come before the meeting.
Taking advantage of the Securities and Exchange Commission's innovative Notice and Access rules, American Water has posted its proxy materials and annual report on Form 10-K on the Internet (www.amwater.com), instead of sending out paper copies of those materials to all of its stockholders.
Based on last year's success, American Water also chose not to print a glossy annual report and instead launched an interactive web-based annual report at www.amwaterannualreport.com. American Water is also offering a virtual stockholder meeting, in addition to its traditional stockholders annual meeting, where American Water investors will be able to attend, view a live webcast and vote online during the live meeting.
"Our stockholders are now not only able to get great information about our company through our interactive annual report, they can also participate in our annual meeting virtually," said Donald Correll, president and chief executive officer of American Water. "We are excited to use technology to help preserve Earth's limited resources while offering our investor greater access to participate in our annual meeting."
Interested parties may view the webcast of the annual meeting over the Internet by logging on to the Investor Relations page of the company's Web site at www.amwater.com.
Any media interested in attending the annual stockholder meeting should call Maureen Duffy at 856-309-4546 prior to May 7, 2010.
Founded in 1886, American Water is the largest investor-owned U.S. water and wastewater utility company.
