American Water Celebrates "National Drinking Water Week"

VOORHEES, N.J., Apr 30, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- American Water Works Company, Inc. (NYSE:AWK), the largest investor-owned U.S. water and wastewater utility company, today announced its nationwide participation in National Drinking Water Week, May 3-9, 2009. American Water state subsidiaries nationwide will be raising awareness through events and outreach activities about wise water use and ways that consumers can help to protect our drinking water.

American Water's activities are part of a national effort sponsored by the American Water Works Association, which annually declares "National Drinking Water Week". This observation is designed to raise public awareness of the fundamental need for safe and reliable drinking water supplies for public health, fire protection, economic development, and the overall quality of life communities and individuals enjoy.
